So where the fuck is your promised self starring video, Jamesy Rogers?

I made a whole damn bowl of pop corn for when you said you'd announce it.

Then you didn't announce it at that time.

Now my pop corn is old and moist.  All the crunchyness gone.

Oi.

Are you having script problems or something?

Yay!  It better be worth it.

Well I'm going on an animal drive now and then I have a pizza party again.

But some time in the next 24 hours I'll view your masterpiece.

Later human!

Coffee, cigarettes, and a Missing scene!  Love it.  As far as what's left, I think there is always something new.  New fads, new politics, new science, new disasters, social concerns, etc.  All of it can be inspiration for a new slant on an old story.

I propose my new film idea:  NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEMOCRATS.  A family of Trump supporters must hole up in their home to fight off hordes of Russian conspiracy protestors, carrying torches.

You could havet a Ferguson style race riot, where a cop station tries to protect prisoner transfer, George Zimmerman (of course, a different name!).

Better yet, a trio of American indie filmmakers hide a South African refugee (whose farm and studio got torched), in their closets.  After the refugee becomes inhospitable, they try to get their Canadian film friend to take him in.  In order to get him across the country, they dress him up as a hideous woman, to throw off suspicion.

Forget Hollywood's superior gore and FX.  I think it's more about connecting with a viral idea.  Just some thoughts.

P.S.  I retitled this thread to reflect the subject matter.

Wow, you scrubbed up good Jamesy!  No hippie locks or obvious hair coloration?  You're moving up there dude.

Yeah, I like this.  This movie really spoke to me.  Well it would since that was the idea and you did say my name to be sure.  (You got most all the other names wrong btw. ;) )

In the last scene, you dressed a bit like a fruit.  The jeans and peach t-shirt from before was acceptable though.

And remember that we don't all have the screen resolution set so big as yours, so don't post pictures as big as you usually post them.  Make the width 700 max.  Otherwise you make the thread difficult to read.

And I'm not happy you didn't say before that you do have a dinosaur sculpture to do bluescreen shots with, when I didn't yet have my dinosaur shots.  Your dinosaur sculpture could have been put to actual work instead of collecting dust.

I like that you have the wardrobe from Beauty And The Beast.

Thanks Jamesy!  What can I say;  all in all, the best indie film I've watched in like forever.  I watched it to the end.  Fun film!

First thing; I loved this little vid of a layed back James, drinking coffee...or whatever..and smoking and just having a cool discussion about all things movie related. Really good vibes! James, you're so talented dude, it's a real shame you're not working on some zillion dollar production somewhere. Thanks a ton for posting this because it got me motivated to take action again in my life and get something done.

I'm going to make a welcome Indieclub vid soon and show what I'm working on. Yes I want to make money, but I might be a little more grounded in reality than most.

James' video was good.  I don't think this can possibly compare.  I apologize in advance, as I was in a very sarcastic mood.  At least I made some sort of video.

First question...I thought Squirt was your beverage of choice..what the hell happened? Second question, was that Ash?

Mike..with the resources you have, you could easily turn into a Youtube factory. Cast your kids and pooch in some sci-fi adventure series and it's Solid Gold City.

That was pretty outstanding!  I loved seeing some of the things you did in years past... Man, don't you love the look of film?  Nothing like it.. and you have access to so much; cop cars, tasers, uniforms... I think my favorite clip was the one from your crawing hand movie.  Funny!

Movies are definitely a huge part of your life, Mike. See, as where movie making brings me frustration, it looks like it brings you a lot of joy.  And I hope you know how lucky you are to have a woman who supports your need to make movies.  Sarah use to support me but now, all I get are strange looks and comments about how I'm wasting my time and money.. Marisol (the house maid according to Marius) just doesn't understand..

Thanks for making a video... That's 2 members complete and 3 to go.... Funny but after I made my video it crossed my mind that "I just made a video for 4 guys"...  I told Marisol  "I'm going to upload the video to Youtube so that everyone at IndieClub can see it"... She asked "how many people are going to see it?"... I paused, thought about it then answered with mild embarrassement "4"......

Nice job, Mike!

Ok, I have some brilliant ideas on how my video is going to go.  Some of it will show all of you the meaning of life.  It's absolutely top secret classified information I'm going to reveal to you in it.

It will go something like this:

"Is this a new tragedy?  Sorry to hear about it."

Yeah it seems I'm riding a wave of radicalized highs and lows.  First came incredible highs.  Then came the lows, and they are much lower than I'm used to.

But I can't talk about it because it will be off topic.  Only society videos discussed here.

There was some derogatory language about a certain person.  If you really want me to restore the comments, I will.   I wouldn't be much of a moderator (and I'm not), but I'll leave that decision to you.

I would like to hear about the tragedy and whatever else you have to say.  If you prefer, you can post it on the Life, etc. thread.

"If you really want me to restore the comments, I will.  I would like to hear about the tragedy and whatever else you have to say."

Naah, keep the comments.  That is so this afternoon.

And I don't want to bore you with the tragedies.  Simply put, there's someone very dear to me that is so part of my life that I needed them in the video.  I can't depict my life without them.

Then last night they were savagely attacked by a monster intent on killing them.  I managed to save them but too late to not have severe damage.

So it was a very hard, long night of praying for survival through the night.

That, and a second of my actors died this month.

There's also another hard decision I had to make.  I can't tell you about that one but it's one of those that leave your lungs just above your stomache to churn and make you want to hurl.  I didn't want to say yes or no because it was too hard.  So I said nothing.  But nothing is the same as yes in this case.  I'm waiting on the outcome of this decision.  Once it's happened, there's no turning back and life will never be the same again.

Well to top it off I'm still in severe pain from that car running me over thing and I realise it has changed my personality.

Plus I have to learn to walk right again.

Ok I said I wasn't gonna do it but I ended up boring you with the tragedies anyway.  Well, only the tip of the iceberg.

In conclusion, I'd love to just film the beautiful society video I had in mind but right now but I find my mind is so full I feel like I'm floating in a whirlwind of restlessness and disconnect.  It's like everything needs attention NOW and nothing wants to go along with my priority list.

Right now this messageboard is my escape.  Into more storms, but at least it's an escape of sorts :)

Damn dude.  I don't know what to even say.  If anyone can navigate this life storm, it would be someone with a will as strong as yours.  You may be offered a shit sandwich, but you don't have to swallow it.  Spit it out and advance on!  I pray that the "highs" are not far away.

As for the video?  I think you should just point the phone at yourself, say a couple of smart-assed things, and post to Youtube.  No editing; just do a one take.  If it goes well, you can do more, later.

1.  I'm not dressed like a mummy.

2.  The lighting on your composition don't match.

3.  You have far too much free time.

4.  I'm planning to make a video, yes.  Stop trying to rush genius.  It'll come in its own good time.

Sleeptillnoonpro hasn't made one either.  So pester him for one.  Then get onto SV Bell.  Then you might get back to me if mine's not finished by then.

It'll be here soon.  Probably won't blow you away but it might amuse for a minute or five.  Like yours did me.

Speaking of which, what the hell???  Your mess of a place doesn't say much for the glorious high life of indie filmmaking success.

I don't mind, but I remember James giving me quite a scolding once that I dare comment on something when Mike Conway has had "some success" in indie filmmaking.  Like I wasn't supposed to think I can comment on subjects reserved for these elevated gods of indie filmmaking success.

Hope that enjoyable view into your life replaced any image James had in his head about the high life of successful indie filmmakers.  He probably thought they drive around in ferrari's and BMW's and have their three storey mansions decorated like five star hotels with astroturf green lawns and fountains and fish ponds all around it.

Pfff, kids.

Anyway, loved your video, Mike!  Quite the looker in your day.  Then you got fat.  But don't we all :)  Now all we can play is fat cops eating donuts.  Yum!!!

I didn't like that all you ever wanted to depict in films is death and torture.  But then again maybe with all the death I've experienced lately, I don't think of death as entertaining.

And is your bedroom and music composing room and movie editing suite all in the same room?  Lol, cute.

You have no grass but you have a lawnmower.  Lol, yeah those stones musn't start protruding too high.

But it looked like you can still do indiemeet there.  No problemo.

Anyway, cool stuff dude!  Keep up the... whatever it is you think need be kept up.

Thanks for watching, Marius.  The last thing I was trying to make was a flattering video, so I did it with messy hair and a messy house.  One of the reasons I don't want to do IndieMeet this year is because it is not presentable.  We want to get new flooring, fans, certain furmiture, etc.

As for my success, I suck.  If you want to see success from IndieClub, look up David Lowery (Road Dog Productions).  He made a short, called STILL, that was posted here, years back.  Anyway, he wrote/directed the Disney remake of PETE'S DRAGON and is currently working on the new PETER PAN.  Interesting article about him here:

"so I did it with messy hair"

That's the one thing that wasn't messy.

"
he wrote/directed the Disney remake of PETE'S DRAGON and is currently working on the new PETER PAN."

So he's not "indie" in any way, shape or form.  He's on a payroll for a studio.  Big deal.

That's not "indie" success.  It means he's working class.  Homer Simpson with pink skin and overbite.  An employee working for the rich bosses.  No challenge.  No risk.  Just all comfortable employment.

I'd prefer your success over a full time job.  Especially if the full time job entails working on forgettable mediocre garbage that won't be classics.

"I don't want to do IndieMeet this year is because it is not presentable."

Pfff, asif.  Just invite the pigs to come feast on Sheila's free food, talk snot and watch some horrid movies for 2 days.

It's all for your account so the price is right, no?  Can't expect the place to look like something in Vegas.

Oh wait, you are in Vegas.  CLEAN UP YOUR PREMISES!!!!  The competition will chew you up, man.

Later, Conway!  Thanks for the cheering up.

There was no intention of humor in any of that.  No intentions of insults neither.

"Wow! Indie boy makes good"

Again, there is nothing "indie" about someone working for Disney you fool!  You do know an "indie filmmaker" is somebody making his own films independent of major studios, right?

Mike Conway

My dream was to direct studio movies that I wrote.  It means you make a living making movies, without sucking years out of your life, working a second job..  Pinnacle filmmakers, like Spielberg, Raimi, Jackson, Blomkamp (from your neck of the woods) made indie movies, and then Hollywood wanted them to make big budget versions of those indie movies, so that the whole world would see them.  That's an ultimate scenario!

I don't know if David Lowery will ever look at this board again, but I congratulate him, big time!

"That's an ultimate scenario!"

Ooooooooooookey, so........... the independent filmmaker's dream should be to become a non-independent filmmaker who never has to be an independent filmmaker again?

Makes sense from a financial point of view.

I see it now.  Thanks for teaching me the ways of the world, Mike!

In conclusion, indie filmmaking should be something you use as a disposable tool to reach a bigger goal of breaking into mainstream filmmaking.  After that, discard any indie filmmaking like a snake skin you have outgrown.

I'm afraid I've been doing it all wrong.  I did not particularly care about becoming a hollywood big shot.  Maybe I should have.  I could have made it.  Instead, I lived an actual life in the real world with actual people instead of actors and players in fantasy worlds.  How stupid of me.

Do you think it's fulfilling to do filmmaking in Hollywood, or is it just a dayjob that becomes an ordinary burden?

Part of me thinks it's such a glamorous illusion (positive feeling), while mostly I think it's pointless (negative feeling).  A pointless factory cramming out pointless garbage on top of pointless garbage (destroying any value by saturating the market) for people who sit in their homes wasting their lives with television because they have nothing to live for.  Do I want to do that?  Just that?  Is it even adding value to the collection of human heritage?

No.  But it was a job I could do for money.  Good money likely.  Money is all that matters in the end.

Goodnight now.

No, the goal is to make the movies you want, for the budget you want, for the exposure you want.  Whether you make movies in a studio or next to your home, the goal is to get them released - usually through a studio, as happened with my movie, TERRARIUM.  Studios have global reach and can get your movie anywhere.  Those filmmakers I listed do just that.  I want to do that.  You are being way too partisan.  Forget the definition of "indie" and start thinking about being a "filmmaker," which is inclusive of all venues.

I started mine some days ago then stopped and forgot about it coz I felt what's the point?  james seemed hateful to me, scott seemed hostile to me, sv bell and I don't exist in each other's frame of reference.  The only one who's at least being diplomatic is you.

Making a video showing myself and my doings to indieclub would be like throwing treasures to the pigs.

Instead I did as you inspired and made a list of immediate and mid-term goals and have been busy working them off a list from morning till bedtime.  It's wonderful!  Thanks Conway!  I feel much better now.

Do you wonder why this is?  Well, here is your most current example of that;

"Making a video showing myself and my doings to indieclub would be like throwing treasures to the pigs. "

Nearly every post of yours is in some way insulting, rude, and contrary to the way a person should act toward other people who he voluntarily chooses to spend time around... in short, I find you abusive.  There is no humor to your insults.  Nobody "had it coming".  You are just abusive for no apparent reason.  Besides the fact that  you are a long time member of this board, I think of you as an internet troll. You seem to only be here to cause trouble and demean people.

Really?  No idea?  Take a look at any handful of your posts.... I don't know, maybe people act differently in South Africa but I'm not use to dealing with a constant barrage of insults. Your goal seems to be a demonstration of complete and utter lack of respect for the few people who still visit this board. I get the impression that you are making fun of us but it's not just that.  It's the way you do it. You seem to be dermined to strip away everyone's dignity.... As for me, no, I have not had much succes making movie but I'm not a clown. I have managed to do pretty well for myself in life.  I have made a few short films. I did work for 2 years on a multi-million dollar project for Universal Studios.  I did design and create a dozen characters for a water ride at the Buffalo Bill's casino.  I did create character for a casino in Atlantic City.  My work can be seen in a few Indie films. I do have a portfolio of dozens of sculptures and props and make-ups that I have designed and created over the past 30 years,,,, yet in your eyes, I am apparently just some loser who doesn't have the guts to make a feature movie..... Other member of this board also have great resumes that show that they are not clowns. Great achievement born from talent, skill, dedication and hard work,,, but none if it means anything to you. When I read your posts I can almost hear you laughing at us and I don't like it... I don't hate  you but I don't know what your game is. Maybe when you come here it's just a part of your daily amusement. Internet trolls cause trouble for their own amusement.  They have no regard for anyone.  It's all just a joke for them.  I  know this because, in the past, I too made sport of people. Nothing I'm particularly proud of but at least I am aware of it.  You want us to beleive that your behavior is normal and we are blowing things out of proportion.  I disagree.... There is plently of room for playful kidding around but you cross the line with nearly every post you type.... In all fairness, maybe you truly are not aware of your behavior.  If that is the case, you need to step back and take a look at yourself.

I don't have time for this negativity any longer, superdude. Dealing with you is like looking into an ugly mirror. I have to keep reminding myself that your assessment of me is not true.  It's one thing to have someone tell me something negative but with underlying constructive meaning.  It's another to have someone comment on me as a person and try to bring me down..  Again, I don't have time for this negativity any longer.

Superdude

Now you confuse me even more.

"I have to keep reminding myself that your assessment of me is not true."

Um... I assesed you?  Where and what and what did I say and can you quote it?

"It's another to have someone comment on me as a person and try to bring me down"

I have no particular interest in bringing you down.  Maybe you are down and trying to pin blame.

"in your eyes, I am apparently just some loser who doesn't have the guts to make a feature movie"

That was you who decided that.  My personal take is that you already made that beneath the full moon movie, so it's not like it's completely impossible for you to just make more movies.  You yourself decided you ... I don't even know what.
You boggle the mind.  Maybe you're scared of disappointment when your movie doesn't end up being the most sought after thing by huge, major distributors.

For the record, I tried to encourage you but you do feel pathetic when you need to be encouraged;  that much is clear.

You do and don't do whatever you want with your time now.  It makes no difference to me.

"Great achievement born from talent, skill, dedication and hard work,,, but none if it means anything to you."

So people do stuff.  Big deal.

Don't we all do stuff?

Yes, people's achievements are meaningful to them, for whatever rewards they get from it, whether monetary or otherwise.  The benefits derived goes to them.  Good for them.  And if I know them, I'm happy about it.  Otherwise, yes, it's meaningless to me.  Not because I'm mean but because I'm not lying.  I see no reason why you'd expect me to start worshipping them.  Unless I want to.

Your problem is you want me to conform to your thinking.  You're looking for idols to worship, and when I don't feel them, you spaz out and kak in your panties.

Well if I get to know them and like them, I'll be happy for them and their achievements.  You're not going to expect from me to worship all sorts of people who don't exist in my world just because you like forcing your will on people.

"I don't know what your game is"

What game for what?  Personally I like playing soccer.  Tennis sometimes.  And to watch, I watch rugby, but only if I can sit in a box / suite and it's catered.

"in the past, I too made sport of people"

That's the thing right there.  You're trying to see in me what you hate about yourself.

"You seem to be dermined to strip away everyone's dignity"

Like how?  You got some kind of example or are you going to generalize to your leisure?  If anything I want the world to have more dignity.

"Other member of this board also have great resumes that show that they are not clowns"

Great!

So why do you bring it up?  You want to compare or something?

"I don't have time for this negativity any longer"

Me neither.  Start being more positive.  For your own sake.  No more crying over silliness.

Oh wow, I planned such a brilliant piece of cinema for this, but it will just be too much and too long and time won't allow.

I'll just start with a small one and if all goes good, we can start making series about ourselves.  I have the first ten episodes planned.

Planned but probably won't be executed.

But the first one, sheeza comin!  Won't have much in it, but it's a good start.

Drool, babies, drool!  Drool with excitement to watch it.

"Show us where you live - your bedroom, house, yard"

Oooooooooh, you want bedroom scenes do you?  Hubba hubba, I didn't know our relationship was at that level.  Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! ;)

My bedroom isn't my office, editing suite, music auditorium and bedroom all in one like yours.  I just sleep in mine.  Might make for a very long movie with not much going on aside from the shadow people wandering around my room.

I'll rather show you the exciting stuff I've been working on.

And some of what I do when I'm not living a life of heavenly filmmaking.  Although that's probably episode 2.  Which might never get made.

Will even this one get made?  Let's hope I feel like it over the weekend.  And time allows.  Social engagements may pop up at any moment.

K bye.  Enjoy the wait.
