 I found this in a box last night..  Can't remember the year but I think it might have been around 2007.  only one minute long but I only had 27 hours to get it done and turned it.  I made it for a radio film contest.  Didn't win but was one of the 5 finalists.  The winner got a T shirt and a snowboard.

*snort snort!*  Cute alien, dude!  The child of E.T. and a polar bear.

Too bad they didn't see a winner when it was in front of them, but hey if you still want a t-shirt, just send me $20 and I'll mail you one from my costuming department.  I take it you don't need a snowboard since you don't have any snow.  I'd say this deserves a T-shirt!

Good job, kid!

Btw what's the role of "World Geological Surveys" in this story?

Thanks, Marius! "world Geological Surveys" : Just something an alien might look up. I made that page plus the one with the fake news....... and I don't snowboard but Utah is known for its snow. I think the license plates say "greatest snow on Earth"... There are 2 large ski resorts within 20 miles from where I live and we hosted the winter Olympics here a while back..

Snow eh?  No wonder you're all up into sculpting faces and statuettes.  Must have started with all the snowman building.

Aliens like gold.  That's why they're all into geology.

Well if you're not gonna snowboard, try dunesurfing sometimes.  Good sport.  I myself was a world champion of dunesurfing in my day.

 Dune surfing eh?  Never heard of it.. It is kind of like sliding down a grass covered hill on a big piece of cardboard except without the grass and without the cardboard?

I'll post you an informative video of myself in action a little later as soon as I have the time to find it.  Dunesurfing rocks baby!  whooo!!! yeh.

Sorry, today was just too hectic to find the abovementioned footage.  Hopefully tomorrow.  Good times.

By the way, why isn't anybody else watching your video?  Did Cornflakes and Aldridge die in some kind of yet another false flag political strike thingy in Vegas?  Hellooooooo????

Please tell us if you're dead so we don't worry.

I thought they'd be all over it like flies over .... pie.

No worries... But heres something kind of interesting; right now Im in the process of making my 2002 short film Beneath the Full Moon available on Amazon.com! Im uploading the files now, including the closed caption file (that was so boring to make). The movie includes 25 minutes of behind the scenes and interviews, just like the dvd did.. I should be rolling in the dough soon! Ill make 15 cents for ever hour of viewing or 55% of the sale price if anyone buys the damn thing.. LOL.. I made some changes to the movie and the behind the scenes material plus I did an update on the people involved in making the movie; my family.. Sort of a Where are they now thing...

Sounds good Jamesy!  As long as you remember Amazon doesn't promote your film;  they're just a payment gateway that takes commission and sends off the orders.  You'll have to drive the traffic yourself.

So will Sarah now be played by Marisol?  I hope it's not too obvious you're using a replacement in the Behind The Scenes.  I hate when they do that.

 Haha.. No. Sarah is still Sarah.... The "where are they now" is actually in the closed caption stream.  I don't have any new footage of anyone although that would be great.... I can always add it later and call it the 25th anniversary edition ;)

I finished the uploads and all that.  Now I just have to wait 2-4 days for the movie to go live.  It could possibly be rejected for technical reasons such as my choice of codec or encoding settings but I think I followed their guidelines completely..

Amazon will advertise, in a way.  The artwork will show up if someone searches for a horror short but I know what you mean.  I will probably mention the movie on Facebook and a few other places... The movie really isn't worth advertising.  I'm just doing this for fun.

What's closed caption?

 I enjoyed that video, James.  Fast paced, short, and funny.

Closed captions are the subtitles that can be clicked on.

 Yeah, They are the sub-titles for people who can not hear.  Sometimes they include much more than the dialog. I"ve read some that include EVERYTHING:  [twig snaps] [squeeky door opens] [romantic music swells]...

My track pretty much only has the dialog.

Hey, wanna see some of the art work I put together for Amazon?   Here's one I won't be using but I still like it.

I like this one because nothing even remotely similar to the picture is in the movie.... Which brings up a question; is it wrong to put false promises on a cover or one sheet?  I say no.  Low budget movies have been doing it since, at least, the 70s... Promise them great spectacles then give them plastic bags and rubber gloves on a wire. hehehe

 It's a good day when you learn something new and I just learned the difference between Closed Caption and Subtitles.

Closed Caption is a complete description of the soundtrack of a movie in the form of text.  It includes dialogue, music description, sound FX description, and anything that can be heard.  It is intended for use by deaf people watching a movie.  It could also be a foreign language Closed Caption track.

Subtitle is text that only relays the dialogue being spoken in the movie.  It does not describe sound fx, music or any of the other things that Closed Caption contains. These tracks are used for foreign languages so, for example, we can watch a French movie while reading the dialogue in English or German or any other language that is provided in the form of a subtitle track.

Now that I know this, I will probably have to go back to my Closed Caption track for Beneath the Full Moon and add the things it needs to be considered a Closed Caption track and not a Subtitle track...

Ah good, we got a live one!  Glad you survived, Cornflakes!

Now we just need to know if Aldridge made it.

I've known the term "closed caption" but never bothered to learn the meaning.  It's a stupid term really.  "Closed caption".  Doesn't sound anything like what whoever bright spark came up with the term was intending it to mean.

Let's come up with a better term.  Like "narrative subtitles".  Yeah.  There you go.

"is it wrong to put false promises on a cover"

False advertising is actually something that can be sued for.

Do I care?  No.  Although that old man sculpture was never in your movie.  Just take a picture of your demon creature in the garden at night, all close up and scary looking and drizzling spit.  That'll lure them viewers!  If they can find your movie among the hundreds of thousands on amazon.

Ps:  I expect a complimentary copy.

Update: my submission to Amazon has been rejected 3 times so far. Each time has been for the Closed Caption track. It is not a very big problem though. I'm actually kind of enjoying it. The problem seems to be that my file does not comply with the standards that Amazon is looking for BUT they won't tell me where the file is deficient. They leave that for me to figure out. From what I can tell, the problem could be that I have included characters that are not included in the character set for the Closed Caption standard that Amazon uses... They use UTF-8 encoding which is pretty straight forward. I will remove the [ ] that I used to denote a sound effect as apposed to dialogue. Then we will see what happens.

I think that artwork appropriately represents the tone of the movie, especially the end when you find out that the supernatural essence is actually possessing the guy.

Interesting take on the artwork, Mike..

The artwork I submitted is the same as my avatar on this board...

Still trying to get the closed caption file to be accepted. So far, they've rejected it 6 or 7 times.. I'll get it figured out if it's the last thing I do.

 It's been over 2 hours since I last submitted the CC file and they have not rejected it.  Usually, they would have rejected it after 10 or 15 minutes so, I might be in there!!  .. more waiting.

So anyway,,, Here is a sample of the Closed Caption file I made:

1
00:00:13,113 --> 00:00:20,687
[ominous music]

2
00:00:25,725 --> 00:00:28,995
[unknown words]

3
00:00:35,135 --> 00:00:42,942
[gloomy piano music]

4
00:01:06,366 --> 00:01:08,435
[Techno music is thumping]

5
00:01:17,777 --> 00:01:19,546
[knocking on door]

6
00:01:25,051 --> 00:01:27,420
Keith, can you turn the
music down a little bit?

7
00:01:33,460 --> 00:01:34,727
[Techno music is turned off]

8
00:01:35,228 --> 00:01:36,563
Oh, hi dad.

9
00:01:36,563 --> 00:01:40,166
Hi dad, listen Keith do you
think you could turn the music
down?

10
00:01:40,166 --> 00:01:41,768
Sure dad.  I'll turn it down.

11
00:01:42,435 --> 00:01:43,236
Thank you.

12
00:01:45,405 --> 00:01:46,272
Oh Dad

Looks like a pretty kak job to do.

Is it actually a requirement?

View My Profile
Posted: 10/26/2017 5:06:53 AM
Yes. Amazon does require it. Hearing impaired people can better enjoy movies that offer closed caption. It is Amazon's policy that their movies will all have closed caption.

Yeah.  And deaf and blind people can better enjoy movies with the use of a morse code electric shock impulse zapper (MCESIZ).  I'm surprized Amazon doesn't require that you provide a morse code electric shock impulse sequence file (MCESISF) yet.

So is your movie selling like sweetcakes yet?   I'm glad you got out of your funk.  You should stop eating sugar.  It just makes you depressed.  Glad to see you're back in the moviemaking game.  Or something.

 My title still isn't in Amazon.  This time they told me the Closed Caption drifted out of sync.  They also discovered that I didn't CC the special features after the movie... Plus a couple of other small things that I took care of right away.  I spent the morning typing in everything that was said in the behind the scenes footage then I encoded the files and sent them back to Amazon.

This has been a great learning experience so far.  If anyone wants to put one of their movies on Amazon, I can probably help.  Marius, they have a catagory for uploading an installment series like the stuff you make.

 Beats me.  I keep submitting it and they keep shooting it back to me telling me to "fix it"...  If all goes well, it should be up in 2 to 4 days.  If that happens, I'll post a link or, you could just go to Amazon.com and do a search.  Look for Beneath the Full Moon or James Rogers or Alex, Keith, or Sarah Rogers.  It should pop up.  You could also do a search for "short film horror" and it should show up.
