Since February of this year there have been 20 topics commented on here at IndieClub. Most receiving less than 6 comments.  Many being viewed 100 or more times but only having one or two people in the conversation. A conversation of less than 6 comments.

There have been times that nobody has posted for a week or longer...

There seems to be fewer than 5  "members" that ever engage in or start a topic.

Marius is the most active member although he practices self indulgence and disturbing ridicule more than anything.

Does anyone remember the predecessor to IndieClub?  Sure, at one point there were a lot of film making forums but the one I'm talking about was called LIKEASTORY.COM.  ... So much activity and fun conversation. People from all walks of life. Young, old, professional, amateurs,,, and people were doing things! Shooting videos, doing FX and GGI, asking questions.. I loved it...

IndieClub has had it's time in the sun as well.  Once a very active and vibrant community that became a world unto itself. I don't remember the exact reasons but I remember that something happened that motivated a small group of members to leave to start their own forum.  It was called The Sanctuary.  The members that left had an idea that their community would be a better environment for creative people.  I'm not sure but I think some people left to get away from me! LOL!.. Yes, I was very opinionated and hard headed back then.  I had this idea that indie film makers should strive for something better than substandard productions.  I believed that we could actually make good movies if we could only stop stroking each other, saying "that was great!" when it really wasn't great. I thought it was better to point out substandard work and suggest ways to do it better.  That way, maybe some of us would actually become successful film makers.  Not many people seemed to like my approach yet, I do recall that people seemed stimulated by my provocative approach.  The threads I participated in usually had the highest numbers... Anyway, the Sanctuary slowly died out and their members scattered to the wind.

I don't remember how many years ago it was but 6 or 7 or 8 years ago I was banished from IndieClub. I went too far, became too confrontational, then as a final act, I swore at IndieClub's owner and administrator. My membership was cancelled.. I had it coming and I do apologize for my behavior.......

While banished, I did stop by Indieclub from time to time just to torture myself.  I imagined people "dancing in the streets" because I was gone. I'm sure FXMAN and Mike Cervello were glad anyway..  I gave those 2 guys so much grief,,,, but I did it with love ;)  .................... I never found anyone talking about how glad they were I was gone but I did notice that the threads had fewer and fewer comments..... sometime later I noticed the site appeared to be dying... I think it was last year that I signed up for membership again and was accepted. By now the community seemed to be down to 5 or 6 members. Several of whom seemed to stop posting about the time I came back (probably just a coincidence)...

I started looking around the net for other communities for film makers.  I found a few still around but after looking at some of the posts, the newest of which were several years old, I started to think the on-line community groups such as IndieClub must be a thing of the past. .. Replaced by FaceBook and Twitter and the like..... The thing is that those places are a pale comparison to the communities that were once so alive on the net.  Now, people seem to post pictures from their projects.  A few people comment then the rest of the space is filled with video clips of cats eating potato chips or witty little expressions on posters that seem to be everywhere on the net these days.

I miss the old days.  Do you ever look back at your life and find a spot in time that you wish you could freeze.  Everything seemed really good about 12 years ago.  Indie film making still had real potential and a real chance at success.  The community feel was alive!... I may have been a dick back then but I contributed a lot too.  Back then people use to email me at my website.  Sometimes I would send out care packages to aspiring fx artists in other countries.  Nothing made me happier than to help.  Now  a days, hardly anyone visits my site and of the few that do, nobody writes.  Times have changed.  People get their information anonymously from yourtube or facebook.  Watch a video and leave.  Ask a question, get an answer then leave. Not much community anymore.

I'll be 53 in 2 days and I don't know how I feel about it.  It's true; you do start to feel regret and nostalgia as you get older.  Regret for lost opportunities and nostalgia for the way things use to be... Maybe as we get older we don't really mature.  We just get tired as we quietly feel sorry for ourselves.... and when I say WE I mean ME.....

Ooh!  I want to be the first reply to your thread!  Definitely some fun times.  Some big things that killed the filmmaking enthusiasm:

*Recession of 2009.  It lasted several years.  People like me don't make movies on credit cards, as much.

*Demise of Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, etc.  Basically, the shrinkng of physical product (DVDs).

*Social Media.  I'm sorry, but Facebook is a poor substitute for IndieClub, even though it became the dominant site.

So, is it the end?  Nope.  You, me, Marius, sv, Scott, and some others love it too much.  At most, I can only step back for a brief time.  I always come back to it.

Happy Birthday, James.  We've butted heads a few times, but have shared a lot with each other over the years.  As for your whimsical and sometimes harsh criticisms?  They did make threads interesing, as did the occasional marraige status threads.  I especially miss you sparring with DR_VisualFX.  :>)

I totally agree, things aren't what they used to be here at IC...!

As far as I remember, that's pretty much the only forum I've ever used. A bit on IndieTalk, a bit on Cinematographer, but mainly IndieClub. I sure miss the days when things were busier in here. Even Eric, our webmaster, seems to rarely drop by. But the forum keeps going so thank you Eric!

Mike is right, the 2008 financial crash was a turning point. Many indies slowed down or simply stopped to make films. Lesser and lesser output channels as well. Video stores and physical media going down. and more and more 'sales rep' in search of indie producers to rip off. Maybe one day they will find a solution to get streaming to pays bills, but so far nothing in sight. If Netflix with 50 million subscribers paying $10 a month struggles to make profits, or Youtube with a 1.3 billion users every day struggles to break even with ads revenues, we're nowhere near a solution. But we'll see!

But yes it's sad to see most members gone off the forum. I see Christian (John Carter, on IC) pretty much every week. He still breath movies, though he launched a comics shop last year, so it keeps him busy. Vince Rocca drops by every now and then, Darlene, it's beena . while I haven't see her on IC. She's pretty active on Facebook, but as Mike pointed out, it's definitely not a substitute to a real forum.

As for Marius, I pretty much scroll past his posts without even reading, and focus on the real content instead.

Edit: Oh, and I also noticed the views counter going up without having someone to comment. I suspect it has to do with internet robots scanning the pages. Maybe the counter 'reads' the robots accessing the page as views. IndieClub forum has an old script backbone, maybe it doesn't have the ability to sort the robots from real users. So I don't worry too much about the views counter.

Oh dear.  Talk about threads that don't make it to 6 replies!  Sorry I wasn't on my post Jamesy;  I was on an exquisite vacation in Cape Town and my SIM card became faulty so I forgot about the internet.  I do love Cape Town!

Well let's see if we can pick up the comment count with a few replies from me...

You mean you practise selective reading on here and only focus on what you deem of interest to you????  How unique.  We all read all your posts as well as everything written by everybody on the entire world wide web.  Thanks for showing me a revolutionary way.  It will save me lots of time.

You sure did Aldridge!  Thank you bro!  So you're here to support filmmaking ventures?  Of course you're most welcome.  Gut knows we can use all the support we can get!

Have you also been involved in any way in the making of motion pictures?

"Seriously, it seemed in America, hard financial times means you have to eliminate the luxury garbage you hoard, unnecessary for survival in any way, shape or form, by about 3 per cent, and then act like your life is over."

My job is in the convention business.  I work when parties are booked.  Just in 2009, I saw my income average drop by $35,000.  The pay cut lasted for years, so yeah, I had to budget out certain luxuries, like feature filmmaking and equipment.  It wasn't some drop in the bucket phenomenon that caused me some inconvenience.  It was bigger.  Thankfully, things are much better now.

"I've tested the waters here with that dinosaur movie and again when I asked you if you'll sculpt the sculptures for my DVD series, although the latter wasn't part of testing the waters but because of a different rather paranormal reason for asking you."

What dinosaur movie? I love dinosaur movies.  I remember you talking about a dinosaur movie you were making.  You already had the dinosaurs and were preparing to shoot... Did you finish it?

If you'll remember, I never committed to doing any sculptures for you.  I simply asked a few questions about the production.  You wrote back that you'd tell me later because you were attending a pizza party and did not want to be late.

You are a strange and bewildering person, Marius. Even by my standards, you are weird.  One day you'll say "I think I'll make a dinosaur movie"... a few days later you'll say "things are going well.  The dinosaurs are built"... Then a few day or weeks later  you'll say "I'm building a studio".... this is right after you said "I make $35 a week" or something to the affect that you are poor......  Then you say "I'm making a 3 DVD series"  Af few days later or a week later  you say "the first 2 discs are done. The 3rd disk will be done in 90 days. Do you want to make some sculptures for it?"...  I declined.  A week or so later you say "the 3rd disk is done"...  None of this makes any sense... No.  My guess is that none of us here (all 4 of us) has any idea who you are or what your game is.  I'm pretty sure you own a small video camera and you shoot things with the local people in your community.  Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Making videos for the pure love of it.

You come up with some of the most provocative observations about the members of this board and even American society.  I would never say that you are completely right or wrong but I will say that you do seem to have a very developed insight. Also, you speak well. There is a certain poetry to the way you write.  Most of the time I find it disturbing but even poetry can be that way... I'll let  you in on a little secret; you come across as highly intelligent yet caustic and sometimes contemptuous... I know, there's no secret in that. Everyone knows this about you..  The secret is how I interpret your writings... When I read one of your posts full of cleverly disguised venom or a complete disregard for everyone, the image I see of you in my mind, the person I imagine writing these things, the one at the keyboard sending these thoughts to us to read is.....................Regan, from the Exorcist.  The little girl possessed by the demon Pazuzu. The taunting nature of the demon during conversations with Father Karras.... If you don't know this movie, find it and take a look. It is widely considered the most horrific movie ever made.

Thank you for bringing a smile to my face this fine Friday morning, Marius.  You know, as much as you bother me with the things you say, somehow I still enjoy your posts.  You must be my guilty pleasure.  You are sick and degrading and rude and probably mentally disturbed,,,, but I like you.  .... I can't help it..

Challenge: Do you remember a very long time ago I suggested that the members here should all make a short video introducing themselves to the other members?  If I remember correctly, not too many people made videos but, it was a great idea.... I challenge you, Marius, to make a short video featuring you, on camera, talking to the members of this forum (all 4 or 5 of us)...  In your video you MUST make mention of Indieclub and  you must name at least 3 members by name.  This way it will be more certain that the person in the video is actually you.... As a reward for obliging me with this little gesture, I will respond to your video with one of my own.... so, what do you say?

I like you Marius even if you are a little touched. But, I have a friendly piece of advice for you. If you make a greetings video like James proposed and mention Mike Conway in it, please, for your own sake, do not call him Mike Cornfly or Mike Cornflake or Mike Cornstarch or Mike Cornsyrup or any of the other crap you've been calling him.

Mike is a nice guy but, he has his limits and...well...let's just say he's been known to visit people in the night who have displeased him wearing a clown outfit and packing a wide assortment of cutting tools.

That was Mike?

Marius: Anyway, nobody showed interest no matter how easy or quick the task, least of all you.

Not true. I created make-ups and props for GallowsHill production of Nightwalkers. I met the producer, Dana Carney, in one of the film making forums. I also edited one of the half hour segments of the film although, in the end, he chose to do the editing himself...

Greg Parker, a one time active member of IndieClub, made a movie called Lord of the Dead.  I didn't have anything to do with the movie but I did sculpt a 2 inch figure of one of the characters from the film that Greg planned on making into key chains.

Mike Conway produced the movie Exile. I produced someting like 30 or 40 CGI shots for the movie.  I met Mike here, at IndieClub..

And there was another guy. A guy from South Africa named Marius Vandercorn or Vanderhorn or Vanderclavin.  He made a movie that included a camera shot that I put together for him. A long shot of a map that zoomed into an extreme close up of a specific spot on a map.

So, you see, I am capable of collaborating as I'm sure other members are too.

Oh yeah, Greg's Lord Of The Dead! I have it on DVD, cool piece indeed.

There's a great deal of former Indieclubbers who made tons of movies. John Carter is one of them. At least a dozen films that made it to international distribution and were featured on Space channel and Scifi TV. Neal Fredericks, who filmed Blair Witch Project was also among us. RIP Neal.

Indieclubbers have traded a lot of services, help and contacts. When I filmed She-Demons of the Black Sun, I needed some second unit shots done, I posted on this message board, and the shots were done a couple of weeks later.

What's a care package and what's in it?

View My Profile
Posted: 6/2/2017 2:33:16 PM
Care package.. It's just an expression.  What's in it is whatever I wanted to put in it.  There was a guy in England I sent a quart of latex, some clay, some sculpting tools and I can't remember what else.  ... There was a kid in Texas who wanted to make masks.  Along with a lot of information I also sent him a couple unpainted masks for him to practice on... There was a woman who wanted to learn so I sent her a couple of books, clay, tools, and some false teeth that I had laying around that I made.... I got the idea of sending care packages to people from Dick Smith.  He use to send things to me. Mostly pictures and magazine articles......  To you, I sent a digital recorder...  Care package.  It's an unselfish thing.

So, I guess you won't be making a video.. I didn't think you would  but I was hoping to see your dinosaurs and new studio. Not just pictures that you probably lifted from a magazine or took with your camera after climbing over someone's fence and breaking into their building.

Sorry Marius, I gave you a chance to show everyone that you're not completely and utterly full of crap but you didn't take it.... No, my guess is that you still live with your parents even though you're 30 something. Either that or you live in a one room hut with internet access provided by the local missionaries. Keep up the good work. The world needs boastful lunatics like you...

As for me, I'm going to work on my son's car for a while.  There's an electrical problem with the air coditioner.  After I figure out what the problem is, I'll order the parts to fix it then have dinner and watch Bride of Frankenstein.  Nope, nothing too exiting planned.  No pizza parties but I might cook a pizza tomorrow night.  My life isn't exciting.  I'm pretty much done chasing money, chasing pussy, and chasing a film making career.  Now I look forward to the simple things like working on my lawn or spending some time on a sculpture... Earlier today I spent several hours working on a digital composition.  I'm still working on it but It's not bad.  Here, take a look.

It seems simple enough but the shadows and reflections were the challenge plus, part of the skull is underwater.  It isn't as easy as just doing a render in Maya then comping it onto a background.  I thing I used 9 or 10 different passed plus a few alpha channels to do this one.. I'm still looking at it and asking the question that must be asked when dialing things in; "what is it that doesn't look real?"..  For one, I don't think my model has enough detail for the scale I was trying to get across.  Also, I'm just now learning how the pros will match color curves between background and foregrounds to make everything seem like it is a single image, and not a bunch of images pasted together... Marius, maybe you can offer guidance since I believe that YOU believe that you are better at everything than anyone else.. Who knows, maybe I'll call you up to get some sculping tips too...... Later..

Hehe here's Skull Island!
The part with the base underwater sur will be challenging. Refraction at an angle is never easy to achieve.
For the skull itself, to give it a sense of scale, maybe texture it with some rock bumpmap, that has the same scale as the rest of the landscape? Maybe in Eric Matyas' libraries there are such images you can use.

Let me know of the render's progress!

Thanks, Sv!
I don't mean to make excuses but this is a skull I modeled and painted some years ago. You're right, to give it better scale  I would need to go back in and add a lot more detail.  The aspect that as always given me trouble is understanding the difference between detailed that is blurred together and just being blurry. Do you know what I mean?  If you look at something far away the detail is not distinguishable but that isn't to say that it's blurry.  In the picture there are palm trees in the distance and you can't really see each individual brand,, but that isn't the same thing as being blurry... The skull is hug but since it is far away, the challenge becomes removing the sharpness without making the thng look out of focus.

I think the picture below is better than the one above but it's still not there.  I changes some of the color correction, added ambient occlusion and I simulated depth of field by mapping the "camera blur" to a depth map... I also applied some color correction as a final wash along with a small amount of grain to help tie things together...  Tomorrow I may add some atmospheric haze..

Jamesy, look at the lighting in the background.  It's hard sunlight coming from seven o' clock right next to the skull.  Going to the right of the image it sort of turns and shines from five o' clock.  Your skull isn't lit right.  Just light it the same as the background.

"I had to budget out certain luxuries, like feature filmmaking and equipment"

You call those luxuries?  I thought they're essentials for your second income.

Is that why you cancelled Indiemeet?  Because you can't afford it?

Just change it dude.  Make it what the New Zealanders call a "pot luck".

Let everybody bring their own food and bedding and tents and portable gas fryers and picnic blankets.  No more catering costs to you.  You just handle the movie screenings and entertainment, like you usually do at events.

Enjoy two days of festivities then fire your shotgun into the air to announce that they clear out.

Suggestions to keep your guests busy inbetween screenings and shows:

1.  Badminton

2.  Foozball

3.  Darts

4.  Cards & card tricks

5.  Lava lamp

6.  Couple of inflatable sofas on the swimming pool

7.  Fireplace

8.  Chinese massage

9.  Brandy table

10.  Some form of clay dove shooting

11.  Something that moves.  Like a very complicated water clock.

12.  A piano room all classily decorated where they can hold little concerts or sing along.

Well, good luck with Indiemeet this year!  In fact, I made it sound so much fun, I think I might start thinking about hosting an Indiemeet.  I'll call it "Party @ MOOIFILM Castle".

It mesmerizes them.  You put it on a table against a wall and pack two or three couches around it as a little chat corner.  They'll sit and watch that lava lamp for a long time, either in silence or they'll talk about it.

For even better, you put more than one kind of lava lamp there as a lava lamp collection.  People will watch that for hours.

Here are some examples:

The blue lamp projecting bubbles on the ceiling is fantastic.  I must have that!  Today, I shall search the internet until that thing is found and purchased.

You're right about the lighting on the skull.  I don't know what I was thinking.  I may re-light it then rerender.. On the other hand, the real objective of the project was just to become familiar with the openEXR file format and handling more complex set ups.

It is too bad that Mike isn't hosting IndieClub this year.. Mike, I always thought that you would turn the event from a backyard party to a sponsored convention at one of the hotels.. and I've often wondered, all those people who show up each year. None of them slipped you an envelope with some cash in it?.....  I only went to one of the IndieMeet parties many years ago and I didn' t stay long.  Not because it wasn't cool though.  The time I was there I met some cool people.  I got to meet you and Shiela and Greg Parker!!  My ex-wife, Sarah, and Greg got along well.

Careful James..I read the reviews on that and alot of people were complaining that what is shown in the pic is not what it actually looks like.

You mean for extra income so he can afford indiemeet again? "

Here's the deal Marius... I know you're just trying to help Mike out with thoughtful ideas on how he can improve his Indiemeets but, get a load of the list you wrote!

Brandy table? Good brandy is expensive and for a large crowd that really adds up!

Chinese Massage?!?!?!  Is that with or without the Happy Ending?

Fireplace? Swimming pool? Grand pianos? A room filled with lava lamps?

If Mike could afford half the stuff you have on your list of must haves, he certainly wouldn't have any problems holding another IndieMeet to begin with.

Regarding IndieMeet, we'll probably pick back up, next year.  We need to put some money into the house, so that is the priority, this time.  I'm embarrassed for people to see it, right now.

Have you seen some of those people who attended through the years, Jamesy?  Most of them don't even know how to wear human clothes.  They wear these filthy minimal rags.  I could not believe "first world" white people could look so degenerate.

LoL!...... I can't disagree with that....

Yes, I know the Indiemeet is not meant to make money nor become corporate but after putting that thing on for, what, 10 years? Maybe have people kick in to atleast show appreciation. Even the people who show up in rags can certainly kick in 10 bucks.. As for sponsorship; what would be the problem with having Adobe send a check for $500 bucks along with some trial copies of Premiere and Audition and some brochures.  Maybe get B&H photo to contribute a few hundred along with 50 copies of their catalog...  That's not selling out.  Even Indies need software and equipment.

.... yes, money makes the wheels turn. At least here in the U.S. it does.  Maybe in South Africa you can pay your rent with chickens or baboon skins but here, people expect money..

Hmm, ya sure about that Marius? The citizens of the United States Of America are the most heavily armed group of people on Earth. A billion firearms and a trillion rounds of ammo and growing by the second. How is the the USA going to be destroyed exactly? From what I've seen, it's South Africa that better be careful. Who's getting defensive? If you offended me, I would refer to you as Superdud or Baboon Fucker or Monkey Face. But no, I called you Marius; The Next Nostrildamus.

You said the United States was doomed and I simply asked how you came to this conclusion. The reason I brought up the armed citizens part is because that's the reason why there will never be a genocide in the U.S.A. like what is taking place in your country right now. So why in the world would a group from America want to move to your country? From what I've seen, it looks like anybody who can is getting out of S. Africa in a hurry. It is a very sad situation.

What the fuck were you people thinking when you gave up your weapons?

This is all very fascinating. .. We can always count on Marius for a brief history lesson.....
I do agree that England and France are doomed unless they become brutal toward the forces that mean to destroy them.... and I do see the same thing happening in the USA.

I was just telling Marisol last night while riding her from behind that there are real monsters on this planet. She thought I was talking about muslims, which I was, but , to be fair, it goes far beyond islamic killers. They are just a bunch of monkeys with knives.  The real evil lies in the heart of all mankind.  Give a man power, any man, and if he is not good, he will quickly begin to destroy everything around him.  The entire human race is a failed experiment in my opinion... That is not the same thing as saying that all people are bad. They are not. WE are not but, just as global warming is not about the difference in temperature this year and last year, the progress and behavior of people cannot be charted in a single year, or decade, or century.  We need to look at the entire history of mankind.  We, as a species, are the most out of balance animals on the planet.  Give us thumbs and we will grab a knife. Discover nuclear power and we will build bombs. Disagree with our political philosophy and we will send out troops to your country and kill you.  It's really quite amazing how monstrous we are as a species.  If it moves we will kill it.  There is no harmony between humans and this world.  We pretend that we care about endangered species and pollution, and the crime rate, and abused children... and we watch the news each night to see who has been murdered or raped and how many there were.  This is normal to us.  WE endangered the various species, we make the pollution and crime rates. We abuse our children and steel and lie..... Sure, other animals are also capable of some atrocities toward their own kind but that's my point. They might become just like us if they had the intelligence to make weapons and to form strategies to get what they want from this world.  Humans have intelligence. Some more than others but what do we do with this intelligence.  We shape the world as we want it to be. Our inventions and cultures and medicines and technologies.  All wonderful things except that at the core, we are still no more evolved than apes; basic and primitive but, we have the capability to think... It's too bad that history has shown that the number one thing with think about is killing other people...

There is no god. People believe these superstitions for a whole variety of reasons but the two big ones are; brain washing, and fear of death and the unknown. Children are brainwashed about the existence of an invisible man in the sky the moment they can understand language.  Their supreme authority figures; mom and dad, tell them there is a god so there must me....  and because we are intelligent, we are aware of our own mortality. We know that we will someday die. This scares the shit out of most people and causes them to consider what happens after death. The idea that they just cease to exist is too unconscionable to consider "How could I not exist?".. So they invent the afterlife.  A place you go after you die.... and who is there to great you when you arrive?  God.  Your creator. The one who has been watching over YOU your entire life.  He loves you and always has you on his mind..... Oh please...

So, what's wrong with believing in god?  It seems to help a lot of people get though life and at least attempt to be good people.  I mean, people don't want to upset their god.  OK, fine.  Be a good person so you don't upset your god.... What's that you say?  My god is different than your god! How can this be?  You must be mistaken.  My god is the only real god.  I'll tell you what; you start believing in my god or I will kill you..... So much for god... but we have evolved a little.  Except for the muslims and the belief in their god, all other religious I know of have evolved to the point that the crazy people who belief in them no longer kill in the name of religious purity.  No. Now people will simply shun you or avoid interacting with you or, at very least, they will harbor secret judgments against you and consider you inferior or uninformed.
Humans.  We do not belong here... and maybe Marius it right.. Actually, I do believe that he is.  Mankind will go through a violent metamorphosis that is require great sacrifice and death before we reach the other side where, possible, we are a better species.

Anyway, I'd like to come to the next Indiemeet if you have one, Mike.  Might be just what I need.

Just finished watching DreamCatcher.  Pretty good movie!  It's based on a Steven King novel which as we all know, never translates very well into movies... For instance, The Shining. The movie offers only a vague image of what is in the book.... DreamCatcher movie was good enough to make we want to read the book now.. Kind of backwards since people generally reead the book then see the movie...

Marius..."They start by murdering all the white farmers, as you may know.  The ANC believes if they can kill all the farmers who provide food and jobs to blacks, the ANC as a communist state will be what black people are completely dependent upon for (imported?) food and money."

So what's the food situation like now in S. Africa? Another question..are the blacks who are taking over the farms growing any food on them or are the farms just being taken over by the weeds?

White South Africans will also see it as their chance to chase after them.

How are they going to chase after them if all the whites are killed?

Here's the other question I've been wanting to ask you Marius... On your studio thread, you showed pics of the crew working on the construction phase who were mostly blacks. They're  not going around causing trouble and it looks like you got along fine with them. So is it just small groups who are involved with the masses just trying to deal with it? Is your life in danger and is your property going to be seized?

"I've spent some time in the West and the only excitement they have is clothing sales and TV and junk food and video games." Wow, you make us sound very shallow and devoid of substance. What you might not see is that we too have adapted to our environment.. For the most part we don't have to worry about the things you worry about. This leaves us free to enjoy life as it is presented to us. You are right; the things we value are almost meaningless. We value diversion and entertainment. We are more concerned with Kim Kardashian's big fat ass and whose balls she's got in her mouth than we are about starving children.... Maybe the reason we value the many forms of escape that our culture has to offer is because we are trying to escape the meaninglessness of our lives. Maybe that is why people are constantly staring at their cel phones. They can't face their own lives so they escape it every single second of the day that they can........ It was put very well in Woody Allan's film Play It Again Sam.. " the negativeness of the universe. The hideous lonely emptiness of existence. Nothingness. The predicament of Man forced to live in a barren, Godless eternity like a tiny flame flickering in an immense void with nothing but waste, horror and degradation, forming a useless bleak straitjacket in a black absurd cosmos" That pretty much sums up what life would be for many people in this country if not for their daily distractions. The most common ones here are: Alcohol, drugs, cel phone texting, movies, and tv........ By the way, In Play it again Sam, the woman who voiced her observations about life was answering Woody's question about a painting... After she answered he asked her "what are you doing Saturday Night?" She replied "committing suicide".... He paused then asked "what about Friday night. ..............  Well Marius,  I've read about half that report you sent the link to, I'll read the rest later today. Very interesting and disturbing at the same time. But, I'll say this Marius; you have nobody to blame but yourselves for whats happening right now in your country. What did you think was going to happen when the government ordered you to turn your guns in and you complied? You had the chance to fight back and you didn't. You could have organized and defended each other.

Never, ever trust a government who wants you to be unarmed. Never put your head in the noose.

The other thing to consider while you hate on America is this; every culture has it's own problems. They may be different from your country's but that's because our country IS different from yours. Between the two, I think I'd rather have great entertainment and wonderful diversions than have to worry too much about genocide and all the wondrous activities that come with it.... And of course you know that I always speak in generalities. Yes, America is full of lost soles wanting nothing more than the next text message to come through while watching a clip on youtube and sucking on an E-Cigarette but there are also creative thinkers and philosophers and inventors and writers,,, and even a few talented film makers.

Nonsense James.  You're the only people who use that word.  We don't even have that word.  We have different ones.

But I like yours.  It's such a nice, bouncy word.  Good job on your people for coming up with that!  It shall live on forever.

"I will not call you racist"

Why not?  Call me whatever you want.  Especially "racist" is good.  Makes me sound like a race car driver.

"So,,, anyone want to make a short personal video to share with the other 4 members of IndieClub? No. Well, too bad. I'm going to make one.. I'll post it in a day or 2 or 3..."

You do that Jamesy.

I actually almost made one today.

But no, unfortunately at this time I'm looking quite the pathetic character.  A car ran me over a month ago.

Ever since then I can only lay down and eat and just do very basic things and not walk far.  I can only limp with much pain.  My back is spazzing all over the place.  Injuries still recovering I'm afraid.

I can therefore also not exercise anymore so I've become fat and fugly.  Which is sad because the morning of the day it happened I was good fit and could still run 5 kilometres in 10 minutes.

Now I can only eat and sit and lay down and feel down.

Remember how you spazzed and said I was fat when I wasn't fat, just not ripped?  Well now you would kak ten buckets full and go "TURN IT OFFF!!!!!!  MY EYES SEEKING ABSOLUTE PERFECTION ARE GOING TO BURST!!!!  WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

I'll never hear the end of your harsh judgments.  You monster!

Just kidding.  I would rather not remember myself in this state.

But how do I finish that last of the 3 DVD's now?  HOW!!!!

Maybe I'll just work the poor guy's condition into the story.  A meteor struck right where he was standing and then a building broke and fell on him and then a lion chewed on him and then he slipped on a banana peel.  Then, he fell into a depression and ate too much Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Yep, problem solved.

 James..." God does not exist."

God does exist and Planet Earth is God's Comedy Channel

I know there is a God simply because we are the smartest species on Earth and we can't create the fantastic things we see and hear and smell and touch and taste every second of our lives. Only some kind of beautiful and wonderful life force far beyond our understanding is capable of doing that. As Mongo in Blazing Saddles stated," We are only small pawns in the game of life." Well said Mongo. We have no clue how the Universe began. Or where it ends. Only God knows that riddle.

I don't confuse God with organized religion. That's Man's perversion for selfish reasons.

Yes, I believe that God exists.  I have not met him, so to make a blanket statement one way or the other would just make me close-minded.  Probably the best way to appreciate eternity is this very short life, full of problems and suffering, and little victories.  Otherwise, how would you know how good you had it?  Admittedly, I don't have great confidence in my salvation.  If I'm wrong and I'm just laying there dead, it won't matter.

Mike Conyak thought he's the only one who could brag "oh we had a recession so I have an excuse not to make films!"

If you haven't noticed, I still make movies.  It's larger budget (for me) features that I haven't made in a while.  That will require someone else's investment.  I'm positive I can do something for much cheaper, that won't break my bank.  My next feature will probably be along those lines.  I'm really happy with some of the actors I have access to.  As always, I want to incorporate all the spectacle I can, so that people actually want to watch it.  My goal is to create desire from an audience to see whatever it is.  You can't really force it.

"Anyway, I'd like to come to the next Indiemeet if you have one, Mike.  Might be just what I need."

I know you could do a helluva presentation!  That would be fun.

Mike, IF there is  a god, I'd like to believe that he or she shares a lot of the qualities that God has in the book Conversations With God.

I too try to keep an open mind,,, but in this world it's really hard.

And if you do decide to make another feature before you're toast, count me in.  Anything I can do I'll do for free and I can kick in some cash too..  Maybe a Midnight Sun production in association with Morphic Motion Ltd. Lol, you people are very cute and kind.  But you can't just import somebody into your country as you wish.  They need to apply for residence and for that they need all sorts of qualifying criteria to be met.  I don't think I'll be able to meet any of them.

But, it was a nice fantasy to think you can keep me like E.T. or something.  But I'll just be wanting to phone home all the time.

Anyway, thanks all of you for your helpful nature.  For now, I'm still enjoying the flowers that grow inamong the weeds.

Jamesy, I know you had a good laugh, but I was serious about the car running me over part.  It really happened.

I tried filming shots for my DVD yesterday, but I'm not sure about them.  I look tired and unhealthy and uncomfortable from pain and no amount of acting can hide the pain that shows in my eyes.

So I didn't make the day in the life of me thing that I thought to make for your desperate urge to make us make you videos to entertain yourself with our life stories.  You'll have to wait for my "personal video" as you call it.  I'm just in pretty bad shape right now.

 I want to reflect on.......

I remember when Mike Cervello first announced he was beginning production. I was just a lurker then. Much time went by but, Cervello kept pushing and pushing. Never quitting. He ignored the ridicule and the nay sayers. He bankrolled it all by himself and emptied his IRA of over 20 grand. He invested everything he had. People told him he was crazy but, I thought what courage this dude has!! To do something like that!

So much sport came from that production,,, all at Mike Cervello's expense.. I will say that he cast some very lovely ladies and the costumes they wore were perfect... I see what Mike was trying to do with that movie but he just didn't have the tools... He was relentless though and I, at least, admire him for that... His film, I CREATOR is similar to Tommy Wiseau's film The Room. Both Tommy and Mike set out to make a serious movie. One was a drama and one was a sci-fi but both were baffling to the mind. The kind of stuff that makes you wonder if you're having a seizure. I Creator might have made a great midnight movie..

Well, I'm always reflecting on Slobbies too, but I don't hear you bitching about that.

Superdude..."Over 20 grand? I wonder if he made it all back in sales."

Extremely unlikely. I remember he went to a convention to promote his film and I think he sold about 20 copies. He made more in sales off of Indieclub and especially off of me. It's still available for purchase, but all things considered, I don't believe he made enough to replenish his retirement account. Which is very sad; I was hoping he would become extremely wealthy so he could turn out more chapters of his magical vision.

I don't have any friends anymore. Not since I gave them all free copies of I CREATOR.

Will let you know more when they are ready for release.  They're not feature length so maybe you can buy them for $75 each.  They're made for half hour TV slots.

Okay you win Marius. I'll buy your dvds for 100 each, but they have to be autographed and I would also like the following xtras included on the first dvd...the vid you did of you flying the jet plane..the drunken dancing gas pump..and bts footage of you for this dvd you're doing. The second dvd has to have ALL the Slobbies episodes for xtras. Also bts footage for the 2nd dvd production. The third dvd..signed and bts like the other 2 PLUS all of your other shorts you've done for the xtras.

  And candy.

Sounds like you're thinking more in the line of $1,000 for each DVD whatwith all the extra time and work you want me to put into everything.

It's not impossible to provide but my time is very precious, as you know I'm sure.  We'll talk.

SUPERSCAM.........Sounds like you're thinking of paying me 1000 dollars for each DVD" and... "We'll talk."

No SUPERSCREWJOB... I will do the talking and you will do the listening........

If you think for one blessed nano second I'm gonna pay you that kind of bread for one, I repeat ONE dvd, then that Land Rover that climbed up your ass in granny gear did more damage to yer noggin than first realized.

Sorry mate, but you aint no Alfred Hitchcock. You're not even Alfred E. Neuman for that matter.

SUPERWHATEVERTHEFUCK...."But my time is precious."

Same here. Join the club. So you feel you have to gouge the shit outta me to make up for your lack of volume? It's not my problem that out of a population of over 7 billion on this planet, I'm the only fucker who even gives you the time of day let alone buys your shit. I'm only asking for a few extras that you don't make zilch on in the first place. I woulda paid xtra for a 4th dvd of work you've already done anyhow and is just sitting lonely on your website.  You woulda made 400 bucks. Fuck that now cuz dammit I'm pissed!

And say what you want about Cervello but at least for my hundred I got a dvd of A FEATURE LENGTH MOVIE with great looking babes with a mad scientist in a nice case with nice art work. PLUS..a shit ton of of printed materials all autographed by the cast and crew and all nicely packaged.

And you want me to pay 1000 dollars for a single 30 minute episode that doesnt even have hot outer space women or scary monsters?!?!?!?

Last time I saw balls that big, they were rolling down a tunnel behind Indiana Jones!

Last thing SUPERSWINDLER...I hope the Zulu Nation finds ya, strips yer ass naked and slowly rotate you over an open fire while they talk about what kind of sushi they like!

Two cannibals boil a man alive, then start eating him from opposite ends.  The cannibal at the top smacks his lips and says, "A little too well done."
The cannibal at the other end says, "I don't know about you, but I'm having a ball!"

Okay, where do I send my thousand lousy bucks!

What really made me lose my shit was the fact I was in a really good mood when I logged in. I had a nice hot cup of tea and wanted to write part 2 of my I CREATOR reflections until I stumbled upon SUPERCHISELER's amazing offer of only 1000 dollars for a single, solitary skimpy ass DVD. Now I'm so burnin ass mad I can't even see straight!

Btw, the 100th episode of this gigantic thread that James started is comin up so we should all let James have the honor of posting it. 100 POSTS! WOW! There hasn't been this much action around here since the original I CREATOR shit storm!!

"I stumbled upon SUPERCHISELER's amazing offer of only 1000 dollars for a single, solitary skimpy ass DVD. Now I'm so burnin ass mad I can't even see straight"

Chillax dude.  Jeeeeez, nobody said you had to go for it.  It's not like your account has already been charged or something.

You could have just made a counter offer.  Or reverted to the original.  Or leave it and just do a small retail price or something.

Instead, you broke my trust using all my feelings and intimate thinking I shared with you on indieclub, against me.  And pronounced your wish that I be murdered.

Thank you for the support you have shown in the past.  It was greatly appreciated.

But if you thought buying my works means you own me personally or my life, I'm afraid perhaps there was a misunderstanding.  I'm afraid myself and my life is not for sale.

From now on you can buy the works the way I make them, or if you're not interested you may simply decline.

I'll make the films I please as it pleases me to make them.  My life, my films, my work, my pleasures, for my account.

You wanna share in my joy and pride, you may do so.  You want no part of it, go find what it is you want.

I'm afraid you'll excuse me if I don't make that "personal video".  Although I enjoy talking with indieclub peeps, it is obvious it's best they don't know too much about me.  I'll just regret later that I ever shared it.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your 100 post thread.  My present to you to pick you up when you were depressed.

May the fun and joy never stop for you.  Later!

Marius, damn you. I want that video. Put the camera on the tripod. Turn it on and start talking. Just do it. I'll post mine tomorrow night whether it's done or not.

Has anyone seen Tom Cruise lately?  He looks a lot like Mike Conway now... Maybe Mike's face made it into a plastic surgery catalog and Tom picked it.

"I'll have the number 7 Conway"...

Ha ha!  Back when I was a skinny dude, in college, I used to get a lot of comments about how I looked like Tom Cruise.  These days, people are saying Alec Baldwin to me.  Of course, that's when I'm at work and have my hair looking combed and sprayed.
