I woke up this morning and decided I'm going to become a millionaire.

There's something I've always wondered about you Marius, but never asked. What have you done in your life to make a living? A long time ago, you said something about selling real estate. Is that what you do now?

I'm just curious how you've bankrolled your projects.

It started when I was 8.  I took pictures of people and sold it to them.  And so forth and forth.

How did I bankroll my projects you say?  I'd say scene by scene until it's all there.

"It started when I was 8.  I took pictures of people and sold it to them."

Wow! You began your career early. Did these people have their clothes on?

It looks like you pretty much bounced back and forth between videography and some type of food production which is interesting.

You sure have traveled many paths Marius. Not nearly as many as me but still impressive.

"Please list all your jobs and say how you felt about each."

No. Way to many jobs. I can't even begin to remember them all , but I will give you a brief rundown.

In the sixties I started out like millions of other kids at the time doing yard work, washing cars, picking up dog shit, the list goes on and on. My very first paying gig was when I was probably around 6 or 7 and pulled weeds out of this ladies flower garden for 5 bucks for the whole day.

My sister and I got an allowance of 5 bucks each per week. We had to keep the house and yard clean. But once again this was the sixties and that was a fortune to a little kid. Comic books were 20 cents at the time and I bought a ton of them.

I bought a lawn mower and some yard tools with my own money and started my own little lawn service. I charged 3 bucks to mow the front and backyards. Tons of customers.

When I turned 11, I applied for and got a job delivering newspapers. Made great money! This was 1971 and I got paid a dollar a month per customer. Had 110 customers on average. Paper monthly subscription was 3 bucks a month. Customer would usually give me a fiver and tell me to keep the change when I collected. Plus I got paid for inserts and getting new customers. Overall made around 400-500 a month. Best time of my life!

Did the paper route for a couple of years then quit because no days off and I wanted to start studying really hard in school.

In high school, I worked in a supermarket for a few years bagging groceries, stocking shelves etc. Made cutting boards in high school woodshop and sold them during the holidays. Worked in a fast food place.

After high school moved to Santa Fe New Mexico and worked 3 jobs; in a cafeteria, a doughnut shop and a bookstore.

Moved back to Vegas and got into construction as a carpenter. Did that for 10 years during which time I worked at least a hundred construction jobs. Worked at the Nevada Test Site for 2 years and did well. I got out after 10 years when I got vested and wanted to start my own business. This was in 1990 when I was 30.

Started a video rental company with my wife and did that for 4 years. Did pretty good. Not great but ok. Sold that and with some of the money went into a business partnership with a thief who I thought was my friend. We were going to start a video production company. My first major screwjob.  My fault for trusting him. Lost 11k on that.

Started working multiple jobs...delivered pizza, delivered papers, carpet cleaned. Janitorial.

Wife demanded a divorce in 1999 so we split. I got an apartment and planned for a movie.
I was going to make a sci-fi movie with 50k in cash and credit cards I had at the time. Then I made a very stupid mistake. Again. I got involved with another so called friend who completely destroyed my dream because I was a fucking idiot for trusting him. And this time I lost nearly 40k for my lesson.

That's when I moved into a 2000 square foot warehouse and attempted to have another go at movie making. I met Mike Conway at this time. This was around 2002 and I was cleaning carpets and later worked in a lumber yard. But it didn't work out at the warehouse. I built some sets. I shot some footage but it was really fucking horrible. Incoherent shit. My mind was not right for the discipline that all good directors must have.

I gave up on everything, moved to another place and worked at a feather factory.

Worked at a Mcdonalds, did construction sidejobs. Parked my dream of movie making.

The last four years I have taken care of my Uncle who is paralyzed from the neck down. I get a pension. My life is shit but I want to still make a little sci-fi video that I can sell on the net. I'm going to build a mad scientist set in the garage and film around the neighborhood and backyard.

Oh. And because I'm super stupid, I recently lost another 2k because I trusted this fucker who used to hangout on this forum. I funded a project that he and his russian mail order bride were supposed to do but instead they spent the money on bullshit and once again I'm left with nothing. When the bloody fuck will I learn????

The guy who got your 2K; is his wife's name Natashia?

I agree with Marius when he questions why you turned 52 thousand dollars over to other people and got nothing in return..  Why would you do that?...... To be honest, you kind of come across as a person looking for acceptance.  Maybe you tried to buy it with money.. So far the only one Marius doesn't insult constantly is you and maybe that's because you're the only one who buys his sock puppet movies.

You two crack me up... Marius is the Frankenstein monster and you, Sleeptillnoonpro are the blind man who feeds his and treats him like a friend.

Keep on babbling, fellas...

Scott, that was truly an interesting read. That sucks about the indieClub member who bilked you out of 2K. I wouldn't expect that of him. Marius, Scott met me before the premiere of TERRARIUM. We hung out quite a bit. He was a huge help with making the premiere happen. He was in my movie, THE AWAKENING, as well as building props and sets for it. He also built the stage that we use at IndieMeet. He is literally the biggest movie fan in the world!

As for the investments, Scott wasn't trying to be writer/director. He was seeking someone with experience. He met a couple of big talking, indie wannabes, who lied and showed just enough work, to convince someone that they could complete a feature, but in reality, they could not. They thought that money could do it, but it takes more than that. Like most talkers, these guys just didn't have it.

Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllll, dudes. James came back to the board, praised your most excellent society video, and you kept making jabs at him. So, then he came to this thread and riled you. It's a stupid cycle, especially with you two being mega-talented. Please, don't one of you push the other away. This place is a lot cooler with both of you, seriously.

Pfff, you play with him!  I like the more mature friends.

Like you.  What are you?  Italian?

I love your voice.  It makes me laugh.  But in a good way;  please don't go I laugh at you and I'm ever so mean and whatever.

You should really do a voice for a character.  You sound mega cool.

I bet you'll sound great singing a love ballad too.

Well, gotta go drink chickory at the top of a tower with Majoor Blaffinski.  You kids enjoy your little indieclub now while I'm gone!

Ah, a lovely day.  I'm glad I had a good day.  Had quite a dark time again behind me.  I needed a good day again.

What's that, Cornfly?  Is that you singing for those few seconds at the end?  Rad, baby!  What is it?

The voice that made me laugh was the grimey-whiney sharp voice you do sometimes, like the way you say "Kyandy siggerets" at 0:14 in this:

Bahahaawheee!!!  "Kyandie sigguhrets!"

Maybe even the way you say "Hey guys" at the beginning.

That voice belongs with some kind of motion picture character.  Dunno what yet.  It'll come to me.  Or to you.  Maybe something anime.

Great, now it seems james chased Aldridge away.  Thanks for ruining our conversation, dork.

OK, Mike... For you, I'll be good and I'll leave the south african dung heep alone.  BUT, before I do, I just want to state that he is a worm.  A foul mouth little girl living in daddy's house without a care in the world. Nothing to do but play with the camera daddy gave him in hopes of keeping him out of trouble with the local political factions.  Such a violent sounding and insignificant soul.  A pusillanimous little pip squeakThe little dog barks but nobody hears it..

That's all.

So, anyway, the wife and I are thinking about moving to Florida in 6 years.  I was surprised to discover the cost of living isn't that bad.

SLEEPTILLNOONPRO.... "My mind was not right for the discipline that all good directors must have."

Marius...."What discipline are we talking about here?  Please expand."

I mean the discipline to say screw everything and make your dream come true. The drive to overcome all obstacles and make it happen. No matter what anyone says. No matter the cost.

Directors like Mike and you have this quality.

At the warehouse, I had all I needed to make something, but I couldn't see it at that time. And even now, I've let things in life stop me. Four years ago when I moved into my Uncle's place to take care of him, I just gave up on my dreams because I made up my mind that my life was cursed and I wouldn't be able to shoot anything.

Then when James posted his society video, I was impressed with the fact that he dug out his gear and did something. It didn't matter that it was only a few minutes in length. He just did something.

"If you mean the heaviest, you'd be just about right."

Are you saying you're really, really fat Aldridge?  No wonder you won't make your society video or your sci-fi movie.

Well you know, it's not like the causes of fatness is a mystery.  Replace the causes of fatness with causes of super fitness for 6 months.  That'll get you producing films like a machine!

In the meantime, if you can't get out of bed, I'm sure with your past in the field of construction, you know where to hire a crane that is heavy duty enough to lift you out of bed so you can get started and get back on your feet again to get started.

In fat, ...... no wait.  I mean In fact, I think I just got a brilliant idea for a subject for your society video.  Call it "Aldridge's journey from blobble to model."

I think you know how it should go.  Start fat and film yourself and your daily struggle for 6 months to the point of improvement, then make a short edited version for us to see.  Maybe even a "picture a day" kind of sequence that shows you deflating.

In fat... In fact, I think I'll do the same.  I used to make for quite nice modeling photos but then got fat.  Especially when that car ran me over and I could no longer exercise.  I'm working on becoming beautiful again.

"I mean the discipline to say screw everything"

That's not a discipline, man.  That's libtard populist nonsense that is always depicted to work in the libtard produced movies, but in real life you'll just not accomplish anything with that attitude.

Instead, stop being lazy and make a film if you feel so inclined.  Nobody's stopping you so it's not the world's fault and so there's nothing to "screw".  Except a girlfriend.

"have you come up with a plan on how you're going to  become a millionaire"

Yeah.  Only started though.  Mostly still rearranging my money so it can grow.

One of my banks has this "tax free investing" account for lazy people who don't want to do their own shares buying and selling, so the bank's team does it.

I'll see how that goes.

I also bought more government bonds.

And I started looking at trading bitcoin.  Looks nice but I'm not sure I'm really excited about it.  I will say if I bought bitcoin two months ago, if I stold it right now I'd have a small fortune.  But, I didn't.  Not sure I'm really into the whole "let's play the fluctuations;  buy low sell high" thingies.  Sounds like it's going to eat up some of my time.  I want my money to work for me;  I don't want to work for it.

And I started several small businesses with the intent to see which one works best and then after a trial period kill the others and transfer their resources to the first.

Other than that, I plan to make... how much did we say you were going to buy my trilogy set for?  $100 per disk?  I forgot. Just make me an offer again, whatever you feel like.

Anyway, after that I can say my filmmaking made me money!  And I can shove that money into finishing my MooiFilm Castle studio.

Anyway yeah, that shall be my... what were we talking about?  Becoming a millionaire?

Well yeah.  Such shall be some more steps to get there.

You're ASSuming again Marius.

Marius again...."
That's not a discipline, man.  That's libtard populist nonsense that is always depicted to work in the libtard produced movies, but in real life you'll just not accomplish anything with that attitude." ...and... "Instead, stop being lazy."

Relax Champ; it's just a figure of speech. What I meant was..ah never mind. I'm too tired to explain it to you.

Marius ....."
One of my banks has this "tax free investing" account for lazy people who don't want to do their own shares buying and selling, so the bank's team does it."...and..."I'll see how that goes."

Oh I see. Just above that you condemned laziness, but you're willing to sign off your dough to strangers because you're lazy. Friggin hypocrite.

"I also bought more government bonds." and "I've also looked at bitcoin."

 Good luck with those.

Marius..."
And I started several small businesses with the intent to see which one works best and then after a trial period kill the others and transfer their resources to the first."

The question is, can you devote the time that each one of the businesses require to make an accurate assessment?

Marius.."
Other than that, I plan to make... how much did we say you were going to buy my trilogy set for?  $100 per disk?  I forgot. Just make me an offer again, whatever you feel like."

Don't you remember Marius? You were going to post all your work on youtube and that way you could get paid a penny for every 10 billion views and then I could use my little handy, dandy online video grabber to download and save everything you have for free. Sound like a plan little buddy?

oh what evuhhhhhhhhr.

You're obviously in one of your moods.  Go ask your uncle to pat you on your head;  you'll feel better.

"Sound like a plan little buddy?"

So your bid is zero.

Well, I did say "whatever you feel like", didn't I.  Fine, if it's all you can afford.  Must have thrown your money away at someone again who told you they'll make a movie.  Instead they pulled an Aldridge and his society video on you.

"The question is, can you devote the time that each one of the businesses require to make an accurate assessment?"

No, I'm gonna treat it like spaghetti.  I'll throw it up there and if it sticks to the ceiling, it passes and I throw more at it to make it grow.

The ones that fall, the dog can come eat up.

"
Good luck with those. "

Actually government bonds pay a set interest rate.  It can only work, not fail.   What's your problem with it?

"
Just above that you condemned laziness, but you're willing to sign off your dough to strangers
"

No my dear.  It's a team of brokers.  How else would it work anyway?   You're just jealous because instead of flushing my money down the toilet of using liars to make my films, I make it grow in investment accounts, not disappear.

Anyway, I must say I really don't understand some of the thinking on this forum around filmmaking.  Could you explain it to me?

To me, filmmaking was always just, well ideally starting with a discussion with someone who was going to distribute it, but ok, let's say it's a small project you're making, filmmaking really just consists of planning, getting everything together and arranging, shooting, editing, and that's about as far as it goes at this level.

Yet this website is the first one in my experience where it's thrown around out there that something so simple should be regarded as impossible and a psychological wall that's impenetrable.

Can you explain that to me?  You want to make your "little sci-fi fetish" film for example.  How difficult do you think it is?

Because judging from how you describe it as just a little thing that you'll upload online and perhaps sell a "small" number, it sounds more like something that should have been thought up in an afternoon and all executed and shot within about 10 hours, all in the same weekend.

Why is it a 40 year project to you?

And I'm not like looking down at you or anything;  I'm really intrigued about what kind of thinking is it that causes this.

Hey Marius...I'm not being negative at all. I'm just saying be careful. I'm not preaching. I've made more mistakes than you ever will. No, I'm not jealous either. Because if you succeed, I know you'll make more terrific works of art in the future and maybe even some more Slobbies episodes.

Of course I'm going to buy your dvd's when they're done.

Why is it taking so long???? Because I'm going to do it my way.

I need gear
I need props
I need to upgrade my computer or buy a new one
I need wardrobe
I need a green screen set up.
I need an actress
I need a costume for her
I need to build a set

Do you get it now Marius?

I know this isn't what you would do. You can pull a rocketship out of your ass for a dollar and build any set for 10 bucks. I get it. You're a god. I'm not.

"I'm not like looking down at you or anything."    Sure you are Marius.

Ok hotstuff; how would you make a sci-fi movie or short for cheap? Lemme guess...you would have a cheap ass looking robot float around in the air that doesn't do anything else while you walk around talking to yourself? Ain't gonna sell. But you already know that don't you.

Yep, that you sure need to do.  Looks like you got your to-do list all drawn up.  So get to work.  More do, less think about why not.  Unless you don't really want to do the thing.
