I didn't like the first one either.  I was a strong advocate for it and the future of 3D movies but both the movie and the 3Dness of it let me down.  I don't give a rats ass if they every make another Avatar or 3D movie.  Let's get back to stories that aren't just there to link the special effects together..

How did it let you down?  It did all it was supposed to do.  Played up there on the screen boom beem bam whoo whee whaa screaming and explosions and I'm sure there was some sex of some kind plus your usual hollywood bashing of expansion of industry or evilisation of capitalism or whatever crappy message nobody even cares about no more.

"Let's get back to stories that aren't just there to link the special effects together.."

There aren't any more stories.  That's the crux of Hollywood.

But they'll still try.  Gotta push product out like a turd that must come.  It'll keep raining turds on the public, peddling more "stars" and productised people onto the masses to get them to fork over their money.

Movies are great.  So great.  Great.  Yeah.  Oh god movies are so fantastic.  Let's all marry movies.

"There aren't any more stories"

That's not true, but I think I know what you mean.

Don't be so frustrated Marius,  People do want stories, they just don't know it.  Give them good stories and they shall come... Problem is that even when someone makes a movie that is story driven these days, the story is weak.. To be completely honest, the story is shit.

We need more good stories like"
Kramer vs Kramer
An officer and a gentlemen
The exorcist
The graduate

and many many more...

No man people don't want stories.  Hoodafaak wants stories?

People don't have time for stories.  Stories take time that you could be numbing yourself with work immersion.

Stories are what you tell around the fire at night.  Now who sits by a fire at night?  mmmmm?  Who?  Not you.  So no stories for you.

Your right. That is how story telling may have started.  People do still enjoy stories.  I'm clinging to that idea. So much so that I consider it a fact.  Right now I think we are still just reeling from the realization that with CGI and compositing techniques, we can show people anything that can be imagined.  There are no more limits... And audiences are loving it too!  Never before have they seen such huge explosions or entire cities collapsing, or flying zebras..... I believe the generation that was born in the past 10 years will care less for special effects because they will have grown up with them. They won't be so special..  They will be the ones who want a return to story telling...

Mark my words.

I've nowhere to mark your words on.  Like what, on a piece of cardboard?  Naah.  Don't got none. I've been throwing away all my possessions.  I decided I just want money for security, and no more possessions taking up my time and space.  I hate having to dust off everything and seeing it all disintegrate just from standing around.  Depresses me.

The generations that come will be stupid.  They irritate me with their phones and games and shallowness and mannerisms.  And they all fucking talk like those irritating Disney channel shows.

They want stories?  They can go fuck themselves.

I feel your contempt and to some degree, I feel the same.... So make good stories just for you...  What do you do for a living anyway.  I know almost nothing about life in S. Africa.  Are you free to shoot movies whenever you want or do you have to squeeze it in between work and spending time with the family?

Oh I make good stories just for me.  Don't you worry about that.  What I post online is just a small tip of the iceberg.  The rest are too personal or I just don't feel like sharing.  My movies are more like my diaries.  One day when I'm departed, people can discover it all or throw it away.

"Are you free to shoot movies whenever you want"

There are some obligations but I can schedule things.

Well it's 11:30 pm and I need my beauty sleep.  Love to talk more but that's why the coming days are there.

Goodnight Jamesy!  Enjoy playing with your scanner.

Looking forward to the new AVATARs and Cameron produced TERMINATOR trilogy.  The man, has made some of may favorite movies.  I love the extended cut of ALIENS.  TERMINATOR changed my life, and T2 was awesome in my book.

AVATAR was actually better than I expected it to be.  I had an attitude going in.  Yeah, it was a twist on DANCES WITH WOLVES, but that is also a movie I really like.

I really admire Cameron as a creative force.  Working as a truck driver, the guy taught himself Special Effects, by going to the USC library!  The way he electrified maggots in GALAXY OF TERROR.  His FX on BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS.  The fact that he quickly drew the picture of Rose, to use in that scene in TITANIC.  His design of weapons, ships, etc. in ALIENS.  The double ending technique he used with TERMINATOR and ALIENS.  You think it's over and then you get something even more epic.  The guy can write.  Quite a feat shooting all that underwater stuff, in THE ABYSS.

Easy there, that's moviemaking talk that is.  I tried that once and got called "touched".

I liked TERMINATOR too.  It inspired me so much that in my youth I made a robot movie complete with cardboard sets and box built robots and lots of such cool other B-movie things.

It shall be up on my website in some years.  I think some people may even like it.

So it's a guy called Cameron who inspired me to make such a movie, is it?  My hat is off to him.  Really, look, I'm not wearing a hat.  It's off because I thank the guy, whoever he is.

So Cornfly, when are you going to make something movierelated again?  Is the slowness of your moviemaking due to the fact that there aren't any more such people such as Cameron to inspire you to do something worthwhile?  I think I feel that way too.  Fortunately I make movies whether I'm inspired or not.  If I don't I slowly die.

I don't socialize enough.  Tonight, at the house party, I met a couple of women, one of whom worked on a bunch of movies in the 90's, like Steven King's THE NIGHT SHIFT.  It was pretty inspiring!  Nice to talk and get excited about movies.  I haven't done that very much.

I think I've mentioned that I can be very reclusive.  I recently went 4 months without doing anything with a friend, you know, going to a movie, or to lunch, etc.

This should be a good week.  I'm going to the premiere of ESCAPE FROM LAS VEGAS, on Monday.  Blink and you'll miss me as the masked shooting henchman, on the left, 10 seconds in.

Wow, it's hard to believe somebody who arranges a social event called indiemeet in which lots of people come to your house to socialise, is a recluse.  A reclusive socialite eh?

Sounds like me.  I would just always be alone working on my thingies, except people keep inviting me to their gatherings and I love it.  Can you believe people actually voluntarily want me at their social gatherings?  Thought maybe from the way james is always begging you to ban me, you wouldn't believe there are people who actually desire my presence.

"ESCAPE FROM LAS VEGAS".  Lol!  Yeah sounds like something you'll find exciting.  It's made for you and Aldridge.

Me, I took one look at that trailer and it screams amateur so I best not attend for fear the filmmakers will ask me what I thought and I be like "Keep on climbing the ladder to professionalism.  Really, climb it please!!!"  ;)

But I'm glad you have a reason now to get out of the house a bit.  I take it it's friends of yours who made it and invited you?  Beautiful.  See?  You have people craving your presence too.  No more depression over being unwanted.

"Nice to talk and get excited about movies."

So your urge to make movies originates from outside you?

Mine originates from inside me.  Which is why I never stop even when there's no point.

You should go, Scott.  It's this Monday, with four showings, from 6pm - 8:20pm.  Eclipse Theater, downtown.

Marius, I'll see if the producers can fly you out, contingent on lavish praise for the production, from yourself.  Also, I'll repeat, I'm in this movie.  10 seconds into that trailer, I'm next to the bald guy, firing our weapons.  Just a brief henchman part.  Jake the badass takes me down.

Fly me out to Vegas????  You just want to destroy me by getting me hooked to an old addiction.  WHO TOLD YOU!!!

Did you know Vegas was the first place I ever played a slot machine?  It was at the Golden Nugget hotel.

The very, very first time I played a slot I put in 25c and won $1.  First time winner.

After that of course, it didn't stop.  I played slots everywhere.  Won tremendous amounts.

But then as I got older, I lost tremendous amounts.  That's when I knew it was over.  The one armed bandit got me hooked and made me feel like a winner, only to take back everything it gave and then some.  I had to say my farewells.  It was a friendship based only and solely on money.  Could never work.

So I stopped cold turkey and went into spasms but pulled through.

To always remember the good times, I bought myself a model slot machine and keep it in my office.  Every day I play one pull.

Whatever.  Why am I telling you this?  You're probably not interested.

I tried to find you in that trailer but I don't think this is your big break, seeing as nobody can see your face.  Do you have a face still?  You gotta face it:  It's all in the face.  Face the truth.  No-face appearances in movies are not going to do much to advance your acting career.  Nobody will know it's you when you're standing face to face asking for an acting job.

Enjoy your little movie screening!  Try not to overdose on popcorn and slushy drinks.

Had a fun time at the screening.  Scott, where were you....?  Even got some swag.  The main actress didn't show up, so I got her DVD copy.

Hey glad you had fun dude!  And look, you got another DVD you can add to the pile.

Was this screening at someone's house or was it in a rented theater or something?

Yeah, where were you Scott???  You'd better hope it's because you were working on your own society movie that you couldn't spare the time.  Clock's ticking!

Sorry I couldn't make it Mike. I'm busy taking care of my Uncle and I couldn't break away. I really wanted to go too and see you and Jake. Did you have a good crowd there?

Not too many people were there.  Maybe because it was a Monday.  The venue was a fancy, multiplex theater.  The admission was free, as were the poster and DVD.  Score!

Yeah I looked it up on the web and it looked like a really nice theater. Congrats on the poster and dvd.

So how do these filmmakers make their money?

Not with this movie.  It's a fan film, so it can't profit.  They did it for fun.  Jake makes a living as a freelance soundman, and Thanos is a freelance videographer.
