Anyone making their own DCP files? I know I'll have to jump in, so wondering what programs/plugins people have experience with before I go down the trial and error path.

Hmm I wouldn't recommend to do it yourself. Generating DCPs is very tricky, there are several versions out there, and theaters aren't all using the same.

The end user softwares available to generate the packages range from bad to worst - at least the affordable ones. The sad part is that you only know your package is valid once it's delivered to the festival, likely leaving you very little time to try to make a new one, hoping it will work this time.

And the DCP you generate in 2017 may no longer be readable in 2018. It's software therefore expensive and has a very short lifespan. I miss the days when you could simply send a tape or a reel and it just worked...  :-)

Thanks for the feedback. True, I wouldn't want to submit an untested DCP to a festival. Fortunately, I have connections to a local theater where I can test a potential DCP.

I just discovered the Adobe Premiere pro can export  a DCP file.  There are actually a handful of software packages that can do it now..  I don't think they offer full encryption or any of the other bells and whistles available with a DCP file but they should be able to get  you into a digital theater.

I was going to say Premiere, but I just assumed you guys knew that and were looking for something more specified.  I should have just posted. :>)   It was added over a year ago.  So, with that in mind, I've heard that Davinci Resolve works well.  If you want "free," then take a look at:

It was my understanding that Resolve could do it with an additional plugin (not natively?) but I hadn't heard about Premiere.

I'll do some reading.

This makes be feel better.  It really isn't that costly to have it done correctly by a professional studio.

I found this pretty quick so I didn't have time to look into the details..
